1. Educators Take Action: Stop MCPS Staff Cuts
Hundreds of MCEA members, parents, and community supporters turned out to the Board of Education hearing last Thursday to tell Interim Superintendent Felder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Brian Hull that cutting staff positions is an unacceptable solution to balancing the MCPS budget.
The proposed cuts are both alarming and unnecessary: Under Brian Hull’s two-year tenure as COO, payments for contractual services have ballooned by 42% to $100 million in the proposed FY25 budget. These services should be reduced significantly before any cuts to the classroom can be seriously considered.
We demonstrated to the Board last week that we’re serious about our demands; we can keep up the momentum by continuing to flood Dr. Felder and Brian Hull with phone calls and emails telling them to cut contractual services, not educator contracts.
Call and email Interim Superintendent Felder and Chief Operating Officer Brian Hull NOW!
