Human and Civil Rights Committee
The Human and Civil Rights (HCR) Committee is focused on the ‘No Labels, No Limits!’ campaign to eliminate student tracking in the MCPS.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO REMOVE LABELS AND TO GIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO ALL STUDENTS?
Grouping students by labels or in certain classes with selective instruction is tracking. Students who have not been identified gifted have limited choices and are often prevented from participating in magnet classes and taking advance courses needed to get into colleges. All students deserve high quality of instruction. The No Labels, No limits initiative benefits all students and leads to achieving meaningful goals and outcomes, such as higher numbers of students prepared and ready to enter college or careers.
We need to give opportunities to all students without labels and limits. We believe that all children have unique gifts and talents that should be reinforced through equitable education, including differentiated instruction based on a rigorous curriculum.
